Our Unique Planet: Earth

Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by how our world works and how unique it is from other planets in our Solar System and our own universe. That's why I was elated to have the first lesson in the first quarter of the Earth and Life subject about the habitability and uniqueness of our planet, Earth as finally, I can learn more about it now.

A lot of factors play a role in Earth's uniqueness as a planet. As I have learned from this lesson, there are four: Temperature, Energy, Atmosphere, and Nutrients which are used to build and maintain an organism’s body. These factors help our planet become livable and become the planet we know and live in today. Additionally, there are also a lot of characteristics that Earth has that make it a unique planet compared to other planets in the solar system. This includes the following: (1) It has liquid water (about 70% of the Earth’s surface); (2) Plate Tectonics; and (3) It has an atmosphere that keeps it warm by insulating heat from the Sun. With these factors, our dear planet Earth, not only becomes unique but also livable.

In addition, this is the lesson where I realized that the Greenhouse Effect though shown and perceived as a negative effect on our world is also beneficial! This is why I love to learn about new things as the more I learn, the more that I become a better person. Until next time, here in Ad Astra!
